Discover A New Community Gathering Space in Caldera Springs’ Most Nature-Connected Neighborhood

Memorial Weekend marked the official opening of Preservation Park, a thoughtfully designed greenspace at the heart of the Preservation neighborhood. As Caldera Springs continues to grow, this new amenity offers residents and guests a fresh way to experience the land—rooted in connection, calm and everyday access to nature.

Created as a space for connection—both to nature and to one another—Preservation Park represents the next chapter in Caldera Springs’ thoughtful expansion. Whether you are visiting or are considering a future here, this new park is an invitation to explore and engage with the landscape in a meaningful way.

A Setting Designed to Complement the Landscape

Thoughtfully designed to complement the surrounding forest and meadows, Preservation Park is centered within the Preservation Neighborhood—one of Caldera Springs’ most scenic and nature-connected neighborhoods. The layout invites quiet exploration, with scenic walking paths, tranquil water features  and open gathering spaces positioned to highlight the forested surroundings.

It’s a place to begin your day with a walk, to pause after an adventure or to simply enjoy the peace that surrounds you. Preservation Park serves as a natural extension of the trails and landscape that define the neighborhood, offering a place to spend time outside and enjoy the ease of life at Caldera Springs.

“Whenever I start with a blank canvas, I begin by studying what nature has already provided,” said Kevin Schaffer, Outdoor Living and Landscape Construction Manager at Rexius. “For Preservation Park, my inspiration for the water features came from the existing natural rock outcropping around Caldera Springs. Some parts of the park needed to be enhanced, but others just needed to be left alone to shine. The goal was always to work with the land, not against it.”

Water, Wildlife & Wonder

The park’s natural water features serve as both stunning focal points and functional habitat enhancements. These thoughtfully placed elements attract local wildlife while creating the gentle sounds of flowing water that add to the park’s peaceful atmosphere.

“I’ve built a lot of water features over the years, and I always aim for something that looks like it was carved out naturally by water over time,” said Schaffer. “The challenge here was designing a water feature in a flat area that still looked like water was naturally emerging from the ground. I think we captured something that feels natural, visually interesting and balanced from all directions.”

Each element was also strategically placed to ensure homeowners along Preservation Loop have a clear sightline to a spillway or moving water, regardless of distance or elevation—creating something beautiful to enjoy from every window.

Beautifully crafted birdhouses dot the landscape, welcoming feathered neighbors and offering delightful discoveries for families exploring together. Each birdhouse was hand-built by Schaffer himself, who explains, “It would’ve been easy to go with simple, standard birdhouses—but I wanted them to reflect the same architectural thoughtfulness as the homes in the community. The idea was to make them feel like they belonged here—not just to the birds, but to the neighborhood.”

Wildlife played an active role in the design process, too. “As we built the water features, birds naturally started using the new pools, which helped guide where we placed the birdhouses and how big to make them,” said Schaffer. “It became a collaboration with nature, in a way.”

The Preservation Advantage

For those considering the limited remaining homesites in the Preservation Park Collection, the park offers a compelling preview of the lifestyle that awaits. These coveted homesites are strategically positioned to take advantage of both the park’s proximity and the forever-protected 220-acre Wildlife Forest Preserve. Many homesites are surrounded by natural, forested common areas, creating some of the most private and nature-immersed opportunities at Caldera Springs.

The park’s completion adds another compelling layer to an already exceptional offering. Preservation Park homesite owners enjoy immediate access to this peaceful retreat while maintaining the privacy and solitude that make this neighborhood unique. It offers community connection when you want it, and natural sanctuary always within reach.
