Our Favorite Winter Activities at Caldera Springs & Beyond

Published on November 11, 2022

As fall glides into winter and the forest gets its first few dustings of snow, we’re dreaming up the endless activities this new season affords at Caldera Springs. From exploring the community’s nine miles of paved paths and soft trails to partaking in festive holiday traditions at Sunriver Resort to getting those first fresh tracks at Mt. Bachelor, there’s so much to do and see this winter. Here are just a few of our residents’ favorites.

At Caldera Springs

Consider our 1,000+ acres your very own winter wonderland. While our trails that meander forests of evergreens and lush meadows are a sight to see in full bloom, they take on an undeniable sense of magic come snowfall. Throw on a hat and gloves, set out on foot or bike and experience the sheer quietude and splendor of winter at Caldera. After, retreat to the cozy indoors at the Lake House for games in the Family Room, or head on over to the Quarry fitness center for a warm soak in the outdoor hot tubs (this is the place to be during snowfall!).

In Sunriver

During the holiday season, Sunriver Resort hosts their beloved Traditions with endless family fun and activities for everyone in the family to enjoy. Starting in November, the resort is transformed into a 3,300-acre holiday playground with everything from fireworks and light shows to sleigh rides, scavenger hunts, live music, wine tastings and so much more. Think the North Pole, but better.

And the activities don’t stop there. Sunriver Resort guests and members boast full access to Sunriver Resort’s world-class amenities, including the Sage Springs Spa & Club, indoor pool and jetted spas at the Cove Aquatic Center, indoor tennis and pickleball, a full calendar of events — the list goes on. Over at The Village in Sunriver, the holiday opportunities continue. On November 26, they’re hosting the 5th annual Rockin’ Holiday Kickoff with hot cocoa, caroling, a concert and more while their ice skating rink is set to open the weekend before Thanksgiving for an idyllic weekend activity with the family.

Beyond in Bend

No Sunriver winter is complete without a trip to Mt. Bachelor. Located just 15 miles from Caldera springs, Mt. Bachelor is the sixth largest ski area in North America and boasts the highest skiable elevation in all of Oregon and Washington. With 4,300 skiable acres, 101 runs and an amazing 400+ inches of snow each year, the mountain is a skier’s paradise. Not into skiing? See the snow-covered landscape via snowshoe, unleash your inner child at the Snowblast Tubing Park or ride a fat bike through the snow.

Off mountain, the activities continue. Get in the holiday spirit at the Bend tree lighting on December 2, and on December 3, make your way over to the Bend Christmas Parade. To celebrate the holidays with family, make a reservation at one of Bend’s cozy restaurants, or even plan a day of brewery hopping. Whatever route you choose, Bend is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face this winter.
