Your Guide to Fall Events Around Caldera Springs

Published on October 2, 2026

Fall brings plenty to look forward to in Central Oregon. Ponderosa pines give way to pockets of gold and crimson, temperatures cool, and the calendar fills with events that make the most of this magical season. One autumn weekend might revolve around pumpkins and pony rides at Sunriver Resort. Another might lead to independent films in Bend, mushrooms and forest ecology in Sunriver, or a night spent looking through telescopes under Central Oregon’s dark skies.

Caldera Springs puts you in a particularly good position for all of it.

The private residential resort community in Sunriver, Oregon sits among more than 1,000 acres of Ponderosa forest, lakes, streams, and trails, with Sunriver Resort nearby, Bend 15 miles north, and Mt. Bachelor just two turns and twenty minutes away. A fall weekend can stay entirely within Caldera Springs or expand well beyond it.

Consider this your local calendar:

Start with fall events at Caldera Springs.

The closest events happen within Caldera Springs. Lake House and Forest House give the community two gathering places with different ways to spend a fall day. Lake House sits along Obsidian Lake, where dinner, drinks, trivia, bingo, and live music come with views across the water. Forest House turns the focus toward play, with duckpin bowling, games in the Family Room, gym, and seasonal events that continue as fall moves toward the holidays.

Pick a pumpkin at the Sunriver Resort Fall Festival.

October 10–11 | Sunriver Resort

Pumpkin season gets the full Sunriver Resort treatment during Fall Festival weekend.

The Backyard Cafe & Bar hosts two days of pumpkins, pony rides, a petting zoo, and seasonal food and drinks. Kids can choose the pumpkin destined for the front porch. Adults can choose something seasonal from the bar. Everyone gets an excuse to spend an October afternoon together outside.

Sunriver Resort sits near Caldera Springs, so owners and guests can easily take advantage of this and many more resort events.

Learn what is growing under the pines at Sunriver Fungi Fest.

October 17 | Sunriver SHARC

The forest floor gets its own festival in October.

The Sunriver Fungi Fest & Mushroom Show returns October 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at SHARC. Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory and the Central Oregon Mushroom Club present the annual event, which explores the fungi found throughout the region.

Spend part of the day learning what grows beneath the trees, then return to Caldera Springs and see what you notice along the trails with a little more knowledge than you had that morning.

Spend an evening under Sunriver’s night sky.

Sunriver, an International Dark Sky Place, deserves a spot on any Central Oregon stargazing itinerary. The area’s dark skies and clear high-desert nights make autumn an especially compelling time to look up.

The Oregon Observatory at Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory offers nighttime public experiences throughout the year, including Wednesday and Saturday programs during its fall schedule. Private star parties are also offered on select nights. More than a dozen telescopes reveal planets, galaxies, nebulae, and other objects that are considerably harder to spot with the naked eye.

Spend a day at the Bend Fall Festival.

October 2–4 | Bend, Oregon

The Bend Fall Festival takes over downtown Bend (just 15 minutes from Caldera Springs) for one weekend with local food vendors, live music, art, and the Harvest Market.

The proximity to Bend is one of the advantages of staying or owning at Caldera Springs. Time in Central Oregon’s premier residential resort community can include plenty of time immersed in nature among lakes and Ponderosa pines without giving up Bend’s restaurants, shops, galleries, breweries, and seasonal events.

Save a night for the Bend Film Festival.

October 7–11 | Bend, Oregon

The 23rd annual Bend Film Festival brings independent cinema to venues throughout Bend.

The 2026 program includes 40 feature films and 68 shorts representing 17 countries and 11 languages. Eighteen films were made in the Pacific Northwest, and a Local Focus shorts program highlights films made in Oregon.

Choose one film and make it a night out, or spend the day moving between screenings before returning to Caldera Springs. The festival gives a fall trip another dimension, especially for visitors who want to balance adventure-filled days outside with Central Oregon’s arts and cultural scene.

Fridays in October | Mt. Bachelor

Watch a movie with a decidedly more dramatic backdrop than the local theater. Mt. Bachelor hosts Movies in the Mountains on select Friday evenings throughout October, where guests can watch a classic film outside, with audio available through FM radio for those watching from their vehicles or sitting outdoors.

Mt. Bachelor sits just two turns and 20 minutes from Caldera Springs, making a movie night on the mountain an easy addition to a fall evening.

Make a fall weekend of it at Caldera Springs.
