End-of-Summer Fun In and Around Caldera Springs

Published on August 21, 2026

Central Oregon’s high desert holds onto summer a little longer. Mornings still begin with a paddle across Obsidian Lake, afternoons stretch from the Forest House pool to festivals along the Deschutes, and cooler evenings call everyone back to the Lake House patio for dinner with commanding views of Mt. Bachelor.

The final weeks before fall are some of the best for getting outside. Bend fills with art and music, Mt. Bachelor keeps the lifts moving, and Sunriver celebrates Labor Day weekend with classic cars, local makers, and outdoor concerts. Caldera Springs keeps it all close, with lakes, trails, pools, golf, and a full calendar of its own filling the days between outings.

Caldera Springs fills the final weeks of summer

Central Oregon’s roughly 300 days of sunshine give late summer room to last. Late-summer days at Caldera Springs can start on the lake, continue at Forest House, and end beneath the stars. Backyard games, poolside treats, creative activities for kids, and an evening movie by the water fill the holiday weekend, with plenty of time for one more swim between plans.

A few Forest House happenings to add to the weekend:

  • Backyard Axe Throwing & Games
    Friday, September 4 | 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Stop by the Forest House lawn for axe throwing, oversized games, and a little friendly competition between races down the waterslide.
  • Slime Time
    Friday, September 4 | 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Kids can choose their colors, mix in playful textures, and take home a colorful creation of their own during this hands-on class.
  • Cotton Candy Happy Hour
    Sunday, September 6 | 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Pool time gets one last sweet addition as cotton candy arrives in flavors made for kids, parents, and anyone still holding onto summer.
  • Dive-in Movie Night
    Sunday, September 6 | 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Bring a towel, find a place on the pool deck, or settle into a float as the big screen lights up beneath the Central Oregon sky.

Bend ends August with art and a final festival toast

Caldera Springs sits just 15 miles south of Bend, where two major events close out the final weekend of August.

  • Art in the High Desert
    August 28–30 | Riverbend Park
Friday, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM; Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM; Sunday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
More than 130 juried artists from across the United States and Canada gather along the Deschutes River with original works spanning painting, sculpture, glass, ceramics, photography, jewelry, and more. Visitors can meet the participating artists and purchase pieces directly during the free three-day show.
  • The Last Woody
    Saturday, August 29 | 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The Little Woody returns to downtown Bend for one final celebration with barrel-aged beer, cider, wine, and spirits. The 21-and-older festival also includes the Bend Beer Run, a gnome costume contest, games, and live music at the Deschutes Historical Museum.

Beyond ski season, Mt. Bachelor stays busy

Mt. Bachelor sits about 20 minutes from Caldera Springs and keeps summer adventures going well beyond August. The Bike Park, ZipTour, scenic chairlift, and hiking experiences follow varying late-season schedules, with select activities continuing into early October.

  • Redline Rally
Saturday, August 29 | Redline Trail
The Redline Rally brings downhill riders to one of the Bike Park’s signature trails for a late-August day on the mountain. Visitors can pair the event with lift-served biking, hiking, or time in the West Village base area. Mt. Bachelor confirms the Aug. 29 date and Redline Trail location.
  • ZipTour, scenic lift rides, and hiking
Daily through September 7; select Thursday–Sunday operations through October 4
Summer adventure continues after Labor Day on reduced schedules. ZipTour operates Thursday through Sunday after September 1, with select dates through October 5, while other mountain activities follow their own operating calendars. Visitors should check the Mountain Report before heading up because weather and maintenance can affect operations.

Labor Day weekend stays full in Sunriver

Sunriver closes the summer season with a final farmers market, outdoor concerts, and a show of classic cars. The events give Caldera Springs owners and guests several ways to spend the holiday weekend beyond the pool and lake.

Labor Day weekend happenings include:

  • Final Sunriver Resort Farmers Market
    Thursday, September 3 | 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The final market of the season gathers local farmers and makers at Sunriver Resort with fresh produce, baked goods, honey, and other regional products.
  • Sunriver Lodge Summer Concert Series
Friday and Saturday evenings through September 5 | 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Free concerts continue at The Backyard at The Lodge at Sunriver Resort through Labor Day weekend. Guests can bring a blanket for the lawn, listen to live music, and purchase food, wine, beer, and cocktails during the performance.
  • 11th Annual Antique & Classic Car Show
    Saturday, September 5 | 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The Village at Sunriver fills with early automobiles, hot rods, and muscle cars from across the decades. Music, shops, and restaurants make it easy to spend the morning and early afternoon wandering the Village between rows of classic cars.

Leave time for the lake

Event-filled weekends still leave room for the experiences that define late summer at Caldera Springs. A morning paddle across Obsidian Lake can come before Art in the High Desert. A round at Caldera Links can precede the Sunriver car show. A pool afternoon can continue into Dive-in Movie Night without leaving Forest House.

The Outpost continues renting kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards through mid-September, while The Quarry Pool stays open through the end of the month. Caldera Links also continues into fall, giving owners and eligible guests more time outside as summer comes to an end.
