Your Weekend Itinerary at Caldera Springs

Published on June 26, 2026

A weekend at Caldera Springs can create a season’s worth of memories. Caldera Springs is a private residential resort community in Sunriver, Oregon, 15 miles south of Bend, surrounded by mature Ponderosa forest, lakes, streams and 13 miles of trails. Redmond Municipal Airport sits about 45 minutes north, close enough for out-of-town guests to land in the morning and paddle across the lake by lunch.

Two days here can take you from water to fairway to fireside, with Sunriver Resort next door and Mt. Bachelor a short drive away. The only real challenge is choosing what to do first.

See our suggested two-day itinerary for a perfect Caldera Springs weekend.

Day One: Lakes, Fairways and a Fire-Lit Patio

8:00 AM — Coffee at Shore Shack. Morning at Caldera Springs begins at Shore Shack, on the Lake House patio overlooking Obsidian Lake and Mt. Bachelor, where coffee and breakfast come with a view of the water.

9:30 AM — Get out on the water. The Outpost, located just outside Lake House, rents paddleboards, kayaks and canoes by the hour. Push off across Obsidian Lake or Trailmere Lake and paddle calm water framed by pines and mountain views.

11:30 AM — A round at Caldera Links. Bob Cupp designed this family-friendly 9-hole golf course for players of every level, with putting and chipping greens that make it approachable for beginners and satisfying for anyone chasing a better short game. Check in at The Outpost, collect your clubs and walk the fairways.

1:30 PM — Lunch poolside at Forest House. Race down Piney’s double-racer waterslide, drift the lazy river or reserve a daybed or cabana and enjoy a cool cocktail at Forest House. Piney’s, a cafe & bar, serves the pool deck directly, so lunch arrives without anyone needing to change out of a bathing suit.

6:00 PM — Dinner & water views at Lake House. Pacific Northwest flavors, patio fire pit and views across the water to Mt. Bachelor makes Lake House one of the community’s favorite gathering places. Roast s’mores, order another round and trade stories from the day as the sun drops behind the mountains.

Day Two: Trails, the High Desert and One More Swim

6:00 AM — Morning yoga by the lake. Day two starts early, with the water glassy and the air still cool. Roll out a mat near the shore and move through a session before the rest of Caldera Springs wakes up.

7:15 AM — Coffee and trails. Shore Shack fuels a morning outside, and 13 miles of paved paths and soft trails wind through forest, meadow and lakefront from there. The Outpost keeps cruiser bikes ready if you would rather ride than walk, and Discovery Point signs along the way identify native wildlife and plants and tell the history of the land.

9:30 AM — Pickleball or the playground. Forest Park gives everyone a reason to keep moving, with six pickleball courts, a dog park and a dedicated play area. Families with younger kids can head to Discovery Park, where climbing rocks, musical instruments and interactive water features sit beside Obsidian Lake.

11:30 PM — Brunch in Bend, Oregon. Drive just 15 miles north and claim a late-morning table at one of the bakeries, coffee shops or downtown restaurants that make Bend a Central Oregon food destination. Wander the boutiques and breweries around downtown before heading back.

2:00 PM — An afternoon at Sunriver Resort. Caldera Springs guests enjoy access to the amenities next door at Sunriver Resort. Book a tee time on a championship golf course, swim at the Cove Aquatic Center or reserve a treatment at The Spa at Sunriver Resort for a more relaxed pace before the evening.

5:30 PM — Strike out at Forest House. Duckpin bowling and games in the Family Room make Forest House the best place to end a Caldera Springs weekend. Roll a few frames, order a round at Piney’s and savor the last hours with the people you came with.
