Get Ready to Roll: Duckpin Bowling Coming to Forest House

Published on November 15, 2023

Arriving Summer 2024, Forest House is sure to be Caldera Springs’ most exciting and bustling amenity yet with recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. In addition to a water slide, various swimming pools, a state-of-the-art fitness center and so much more, Forest House will feature [drum roll, please] duckpin bowling.

What is duckpin bowling, you ask? It’s a classic twist on regular 10-pin bowling that uses smaller balls and pins. The game play is similar, with 10 frames per game, but you get three rolls per frame rather than two. This makes scoring a bit higher and the pace of play faster.

The balls don’t have finger holes and weigh only 3-4 pounds, so they’re easier to handle. However, knocking down those tiny pins can be a challenge, especially the head pin. Accuracy and control are key in this game!

Duckpin bowling originated in New England in the early 1900s. While not as common as regular bowling, it still has an avid following today. We think it’s due for a comeback, and can’t wait to introduce residents to this fun, nostalgic activity.

Forest House will have two dedicated duckpin lanes where you can reserve time slots for casual games or private events. Grab your friends or family members for a friendly competition — kids can play too! Afterward, relax at the bar and order food and drinks while you socialize and swap stories about your strikes and splits.

The new duckpin lanes are set to open this summer, so start perfecting your throw! It’s sure to be a hit attraction at Forest House, breathing new life into the classic American pastime in a wildly beautiful setting at Caldera Springs. Stay tuned for more details as we approach opening day in Summer 2024!
